The Electricity at Works Regulations state that all electrical installations & equipment used in a place of work should be in a safe condition. All installations deteriate with age & use, also DIY additions in domestic properties may not have been carried out in accordance with BS7671.

A EICR reports is an inspection on the condition of an electrical installation, a number of tests are also carried out to identify any non compliances of BS7671.

The IEE recommends the maximum period between EICR reports is:

Domestic: 10 years or change of occupancy

Commercial: 5 years or change of occupancy

Residential Accommodation: Every 5 years or upon change of tenancy.

Buildings open to public: 3-5 years
